2026 Elections

Key 2026 Elections That Will Affect San Angelo / Tom Green County

Tom Green County Court at Law #1 Judicial seat

A major local race in 2026 will be for Judge of County Court at Law No. 1. That’s the seat held by a longtime judge who’s retiring.

On Nov 11, 2025, local attorney Jana Johnson officially announced her candidacy for that seat.

The primary election is scheduled for Tuesday, March 3, 2026.

Filing deadline for candidates was December 8, 2025.

The Court at Law handles things like misdemeanors, probate, civil cases, appeals from justice-of-the-peace courts and there’s talk that the Court might even begin handling divorce/family-law cases under recent state changes.

So this race will matter a lot locally because the judge will influence criminal, civil, and maybe family-law cases all things ordinary people in San Angelo deal with.

2026 Statewide & State-Level Elections (that include San Angelo / Tom Green County)

Because San Angelo is part of Texas, the statewide elections will also apply to voters here. Among them:

Governor of Texas The 2026 election will be on Nov 3, 2026, with a primary on March 3. Incumbent Greg Abbott has already declared for re-election.

Lieutenant Governor of Texas Also on the 2026 ballot.

State legislative and judicial offices 2026 is a “normal” statewide election year in Texas, so seats in state courts, state legislature, and other statewide offices will also be on the ballot.

Federal offices The election for the U.S. House (and possibly U.S. Senate, depending on the district) will take place November 3, 2026.

So depending on where you live in Tom Green County/San Angelo, you may have a full ballot: local judicial, state, and federal positions in 2026.

Important Dates to Keep in Mind

According to the election rules:

Texas Secretary of State

Last day to register to vote for the primary: February 2, 2026

Primary Election Day: Tuesday, March 3, 2026

Early voting starts: February 17, 2026 (for primary)

If there are runoffs because no candidate gets a majority, those are likely to happen typically around late May 2026, depending on the race.

Because of that, registration and early-voting windows matter a lot if you want to vote or influence local outcomes.

Known Candidates (So Far) in Local Races

Jana Johnson for County Court at Law #1 (judicial) seat.

The seat is open because the longtime judge is retiring.

I did not find reliable reports yet of who else is officially running for that seat (or other county-level seats) besides Johnson at least in public news. The “sample ballots” or candidate lists for 2026 in Tom Green County official websites still seem to be blank or unannounced.

Tom Green County

So either other candidates haven’t filed (or gone public) yet or the filings haven’t been widely reported.

What’s Still Unclear or To Watch

For County Court at Law #1 besides Jana Johnson, I haven’t seen public announcements from other candidates. That could change soon (especially since filing season just ended).

Other County-level offices (other courts, county commissioners, etc.) I found no confirmed 2026 candidate lists yet.

Local city offices: San Angelo’s municipal elections happen on a different schedule than county judicial races. The last city election was May 2025.

So city-level elections are likely off in 2026 (unless there are special elections or bond measures).

Details about what’s on the ballot beyond big-ticket offices e.g. local referendums, school-board or special districts may still be to come as 2026 draws closer.

What This Means From Your Point of View

If you live in San Angelo / Tom Green County and care about legal issues (like the Ten Commandments in schools, moral values, judges who might influence rulings on civil or constitutional matters), 2026 could be a very important election.

The new judge for Court at Law #1 could influence how cases are handled (civil, probate, misdemeanors, and possibly family law).

State-level elections (governor, lieutenant governor, state legislature) could reshape policies that trickle down to local schools, courts, and laws exactly the kind of issues you care about (religion in schools, morality, corruption, etc.).

You’ll need to pay attention to registration deadlines and early voting dates if you want your voice heard.
